Every guest needs travel insurance for a week aboard: it is a condition of booking. This page explains what your policy should cover, and how it differs from the yacht's own insurance and from the security deposit taken at the marina.
1. Travel insurance is a condition of booking
Each guest must hold travel insurance for the whole trip, from the day they set off for the marina to the day they are home. It must cover sailing on a yacht and the water activities of the week, such as swimming and snorkelling.
[to be set: whether and when guests must show proof of their insurance, for example at online check-in or at the marina.]
2. What your policy should cover
Medical treatment abroad.
Emergency rescue, evacuation and repatriation.
Cancellation, and cutting the trip short, in case you cannot travel or have to go home early.
Personal liability, for harm you cause to others or to their property.
Your belongings, including your phone and documents.
[to be set: the minimum cover required for each, if any.]
3. Check the small print
Many travel policies leave out sailing or water sports, or refuse claims connected with alcohol. Read your policy, and ask your insurer if you are not sure it covers a week at sea.
A European Health Insurance Card gives you state healthcare in other EU countries on the same terms as the people who live there, but it does not replace travel insurance: it does not cover rescue, repatriation or private treatment, and it is not valid in every country we sail in.
4. The yacht's insurance and the security deposit
The charter company insures the yacht itself. That insurance covers the yacht, not you or your belongings. [to be confirmed: what the yacht's insurance covers.]
The security deposit taken at the marina is held against damage to the yacht and its equipment and against anything lost, as our booking conditions explain. [to be set: whether a damage waiver is offered or required, its price and what it covers.]
